And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
You know how God sometimes moves in really loud ways? That’s not what He’s been doing around here. That’s not to say He hasn’t been working though! We have been amazed to see how He has been quietly and unexpectedly crossing our paths with just the right people in the Chota valley. We recently heard about an afro Ecuadorian cultural activity being held in the town of Carpuela. We decided to go and check it out. While there, we happened to meet the sister of a prominent government leader in all of the Chota valley! She is heavily involved in social work in the area and knows everybody! What a perfect connection. Sometimes God works so quietly and unexpectedly that we are caught completely off guard!
We also recently met an Ecuadorian sister in Christ who has been evangelizing in the Chota valley. She is a sweet sister and has a similar vision for the valley. The Lord used this meeting to confirm the type of ministry that He has been laying on our hearts - small, house churches in each community all along the valley. We can’t wait to see how this relationship blooms and what God does through it.
Thank you for praying for open doors and connections. God is answering those prayers! It is exciting to see His hand working in our lives and in our ministry.
Serenity recently started 4th grade. She is studying via a homeschool program. She attends a homeschool enrichment program with other students two days a week and continues to take Spanish classes. I can no longer speak in Spanish to Tech when I want to say something in private. She now understands me! She is highly motivated to speak and loves to practice at restaurants when we are out and about. We are so proud of her willingness to just go for it!
As you continue to pray for us, please keep in mind the following things:
Ecuador is in a serious water/electricity shortage. The electricity is being rationed all over the country. We often have only a few hours of electricity during the daytime and frequently spend the evenings by candlelight. While candlelight is lovely, the lack of electricity does affect a lot of everyday things - things like laundry, homeschool, work, refrigeration use…etc. Please pray for rain!
Continue to pray for us to have wisdom as we venture farther into the Chota valley. We are now starting to begin planning different social and evangelistic projects in the area as we build relationships with these different communities. We need wisdom and favor as we move forward.
Pray for the believers that are in the valley. We recently attended a meeting with these believers and were able to meet a few of this precious group. Our dear friend Mercedes, the evangelist, has a small group of about twenty solid believers in the various communities she has been working in. They feel very isolated and, much like us, see the work ahead as a bit overwhelming! We want to encourage them and lift them up.
We are living in a time of much upheaval and discontent all over the world. I hope that, in the midst of this discontent, you are reminded that God is real and He is moving. We cannot be so consumed by the frustrations of our world that we lose sight of the purposes and plans of God - to work in our individual lives. May He speak to you and through you in this season!
